Thévenin of Dependent Sources (feat. Lil Superposition)

In this exercise, we'll determine (through two different methods) the Thévenin equivalent voltage and resistance of the following network, viewed from the indicated port:

We will accomplish this by hooking up a known current source with a known value I to the port and solving for the voltage drop across it (v) in terms of that known value.

Complete this problem in four stages:

  1. Determine v in terms of I and V using the node method directly.
  2. Set I = 0{\rm A} to determine v as a function of V alone.
  3. Then set V = 0{\rm V} to determine v as a function of I alone.
  4. Using the results from step 2 and 3, find the total value v. This should match your result from the first part!
  5. Using the results from above, determine the Thévenin equivalent of this circuit.
