Consider the circuit network below, which contains one unknown circuit element (either an independent voltage source, an independent current source, or a resistor):
The relationship between v and i is measured at two particular points:
- When i = 1{\rm A}, you measure v=46{\rm V}.
- When i = -1{\rm A}, you measure v=14{\rm V}.
Using the information above, determine the type and value of the unknown component. Your answer for this problem should include not only a clear indication of the type of component that goes in the box and its value (with units), but also a clear justification as to why it must be that component. If there are multiple possibilities for what single component could be in the box, your answer should indicate all valid possibilities.
