1) Circuit A

In the circuit below, the switch is left open for all t<0, such that the circuit has reached equilibrium by t=0. The switch is then closed at t=0.

  • What are the values of ia(t) and va(t) at t=0?
  • Find analytical expressions for ia(t) and va(t) for t>0.
  • Sketch a plot of ia(t) and va(t) for t>0, labeling all key values and time constants.

2) Circuit B

In the circuit below, the switch is instead left closed for all t<0 such that the circuit has reached equilibrium by t=0. The switch is then opened at t=0.

  • What are the values of ib(t) and vb(t) at t=0?
  • Find analytical expressions for ib(t) and vb(t) for t>0.
  • Sketch a plot of ib(t) and vb(t) for t>0, labeling all key values and time constants.
