In the circuit below:
- C_1 = C_2 = 1mF
- At t=0_-, v_{C1} = 100 V and v_{C2} = 0 V
- At t=0 the switch closes and remains closed.
- Sketch a plot of v_{C1}(t) and v_{C2}(t) for t>0, labeling all key values.
- Sketch a plot of i_R(t) for t>0, labeling all key values.
- Calculate the energy stored in C_1 and C_2 before the switch closes.
- Calculate the final energy stored in C_1 and C_2.
- What is the difference in total energy stored in initial and final states?
- Where does the energy go? Prove this by calculating the energy dissipated by the resistor.
- Is the difference in energy dependent on the resistance value?
